MHS' Manuel sets 3-mile course record

Lady Skippers take second; Mandeville boy'€™s finish fourth

Mandeville freshman Elizabeth Manuel continued to shine winning the Jack Schommer Invitational Saturday establishing a new course record (18:31.96) in the three-mile race held at City Park in New Orleans.

Manuel has won five of six races this season with a personal best of 17:57.

“It was a good race. It was really windy, and the course had a lot of holes. I had to concentrate on my footing,” Manuel said.

“Thank God for my ability, and my support from my coaches and my parents.”

MHS Lady Skippers earned a second place finish (60) in the seven-team field with 76 runners. MHS’ Ashley Irwin (20:33) finished third followed by Christine Derbins (20:37). Dominican captured the girl’s title with 32 points, while

The Mandeville Skippers boy’s squad finished in fourth place in the 11-team field, which consisted of 129 runners. MHS’ Connor Casey (16:24) came in sixth. Jesuit’s Blue Jays (33) won the boy’s title followed by Brother Martin (49). Don Boscoe (California) (68) came in third.

Brother Martin’s Matt Pieri (15:55) won the boy’s race edging out Jesuit’s Peter Flores (15:57). Brother Martin’s Scott Richardson (16:03) was third.
