Slidell boys; Northshore girls win Slidell City Meet at PRHS

SHS'€™ France wins the boys and Slidell'€™s Smith tops the girls

Slidell’s Zach France won the Slidell Cross Country City Championship meet with a time of 17:01.64, helping his team to a victory. The competition was held last Tuesday at Pearl River High School.

France topped a field of 35 runners to capture the race. He beat Pope John Paul II’s Jon Price (17:09.67) by just over eight seconds. Slidell’s Matt Franszczak (17:15.97) was third, followed by Northshore participants Kyle Hoppens (17:43.55) and Romeo Carvin (18:05.03) to round out the top five.

In the team competition, Slidell won with 37 points, beating out Northshore (45). Pope John Paul (49) was third, followed by Pearl River (110). Salmen had runners taking part, but did not qualify for team honors.

In the girls’ competition, Slidell’s Meghan Smith beat a field of 24 runners with a time of 21:53.37.

She finished ahead of three Northshore runners, including Gina Lorino (22:09.49), Natalie Martin (22:13.91) and Shelby Henssler (22:27.17). Those three took spots 2-4 respectively. Salmen’s Jessica Moran (22:46.67) rounded out the top five.

In the team points, Northshore won with 28 points, followed by Slidell (50) and Pope John Paul II (63). Salmen participated, but did not qualify for any points.
