Hannan sweeps First Baptist

Archbishop Hannan swept First Baptist, 25-17, 25-21, 25-14, in a district match played at First Baptist. Hannan (7-13) upped its district record to 6-1. First Baptist (5-6) is even at 5-5 in district.

Katie Bailey notched seven kills, five digs and four aces. Emily Lee tallied 11 digs and eight kills. Natalie Powell chipped in with nine kills, nine digs and five aces. Kimmy Kirsch tallied 20 assists, five digs and two aces.

second in tourney

St. Scholastica Academy’s Doves earned a second place finish in the Newman Tournament, falling to Dominican, 22-25, 25-22,15-13, in the championship match on Saturday.

SSA(23-6) went 5-1 in the tournament.

Kristi Harrison topped the Doves with 11 kills in the championship match followed by Camille Walther and Christina Wurm with seven kills each. Sam Delahoussaye notched 14 digs followed by Walther with 10 and Monique Giarrusso with nine. Meghan Clark netted 29 assists.

SSA coach Danny Davis said it was an epic battle/rematch of last weekend’s final at the Country Day Tournament, which was won by the Doves.  

“Dominican played really well, and the two teams traded punches with Dominican landing the K.O. punch in the weekend final. I am very proud of the way our kids played the final after our semifinal win against FHS,” Davis said. 

The Doves finished first in their pool play to receive a bye to the semifinal. 

SSA downed its district rival Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs, 25-18, 25-18, in Saturday’s semifinal match. Clark tallied 24 assists with Harrison knocking down seven kills followed by Walther’s six. Delahoussaye came up with 12 digs and

Audrey Gitz had two aces.  

Davis said his players turned in a phenomenal match against Fontainebleau.  

“We kept the pressure on them throughout the match, and were able to dictate the tempo. It was a good win for us,” Davis added.

SSA defeated St. Michael, 25-15, 25-9, to open its pool play on Friday behind Walther’s seven kills. Clark collected 20 assists and served three aces. Delahoussaye was credited with 14 digs and Harrison earned three blocks.

The Doves topped Lafayette, 25-21, 25-23, on Friday with Clark delivering 20 assists. Delahoussaye again led the Doves’ defense with 17 digs. She also had three aces. Walther downed six kills and Harrison totaled two blocks.

In Saturday’s first match, SSA kept up its winning ways stopping the host Newman team, 25-19, 25-20. Clark finished with 24 assists as Walther and Wurm combined for 14 kills, seven each. Harrison and Shelby Fritscher downed five kills each. Delahoussaye chipped in with nine digs followed by Walther with seven.

Gitz contributed six digs and three aces.

SSA followed with a victory over Chapelle, 25-17, 25-11.

Walther came up strong with 12 kills and 11 digs. Clark kept up her consistent play with 29 assists. Harrison chipped in with seven kills followed by Wurm with six. Delahoussaye tacked on 11 digs followed by Gitz with seven. Gitz also had three aces. 

Mandeville High sweeps St. Amant

Mandeville’s Lady Skippers swept St. Amant Saturday, 25-10, 25-17, 25-20, at home in a non-district match. MHS (18-7) delivered another balanced hitting attack led by freshman Katie Lindelow with 14 kills followed by Kelsey Sparks with 13. Lindelow and Sparks also contributed two blocks each. Melanie Gaines delivered a team-high 15 digs.

She added eight kills and three aces. Mandeville has a nice passing match with Elizabeth Rinaudo finishing with 18 assists followed by Summer Burglass with eight and Bryanna Zawodniak with six.

Slidell

St. Scholastica Academy defeated the Slidell Lady Tigers Thursday, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-10, in a district match played at SHS.

SSA (23-6), in third place, upped its district mark to 7-3 heading into yesterday’s with Northshore. SHS (13-11) was even at 5-5 entering yesterday’s match with Ponchatoula.

Kristi Harrison led the way with 13 kills followed by Camille Walther with 12. Blakely Brennan contributed six kills. Meghan Clark was consistent with 40 assists. She also served six aces as did Audrey Gitz, who also finished with six digs.

Sam Delahoussaye notched 10 digs followed by Walther with eight.

Slidell’s Caitlyn Crippin had 10 kills, nine assists and two blocks to lead the Lady Tigers.

Quinci Heyward delivered eight kills and two blocks. Courtney Courtney came up with nine assists and three aces, while Hannah Gambrell tallied seven kills.

Archbishop Hannan’s Lady Hawks topped the First Baptist Christian School Lady Eagles Thursday, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19, Thursday in district play at Coquille Sports Complex. Hannan upped its district record to 5-1, while First Baptist fell to 5-4.

Katie Bailey finished with 10 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks to spark the Lady Hawks to victory.

Kimmy Kirsch notched 21 assists, six aces and four digs. Emily Lee contributed 10 digs, six kills and three aces. Natalie Powell turned in 11 digs, six kills and one block.

Freshman Julie Betz totaled seven digs, three kills and one ace.
