Salmen sophomore Daniel Sams accounted for two touchdowns in a 28-0 victory over the East Jefferson Warriors even though the Spartans was playing without starting quarterback Julien Troullier. The District 9-4A game was held at Salmen.

Salmen coach Jerry Leonard said it wasn’t just Sams that came through for the team.

“I thought Sams stepped up along with a bunch of other people that had to step up tonight in the absence of Julien,” Leonard said.

The game was scoreless until the second quarter when Sams connected with Isiah Tate for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The extra point gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead and the score remained that way through halftime.

In the third quarter, Sams got in with his legs on a 1-yard run to give his team a 14-0 edge.

Later in the period, Salmen went up 21-0.

The Spartans capped the scoring with a 1-yard run by Jeremiah Robinson.
