Fundraiser set Saturday

Christian Breaux, 7, no longer has a mother.

The Slidell boy’s mother, Jaime, was just 25 when she died July 11 from complications due to Scleroderma disease, a rare, chronic autoimmune disease which afflicts an estimated 300,000 Americans, primarily females who are 30 to 50 years old.

A group of residents are hosting a fundraiser 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at John Davis Park in Slidell, with live bands, raffle prizes and more to make Christian’s mother’s last wish come true.

“Her last wish before she died was for Christian to get a good education,” said Vickie Spring, a family friend who helped organize the event. “We’re going to make sure that happens.”

The fundraiser to raise college tuition has blossomed into huge affair. Donations can be made at any Region’s Bank under the Christian Breaux college fund.

For now, Christian seems to have his sights set to fill his mother’s dream. He made the honor roll on his last report card, Spring said.

“He’s got a long road to go, but he’s got so much support,” Spring said.
