St. Scholastica Academy junior Angela LaBorde captured the three-mile race in the Walker Shootout XC Meet with a time of 17:41.58 on Saturday to help lead her Doves to the team title with 63 points, which originally tied with Lafayette. The Doves were awarded the girl’s title as their sixth overall team finisher Ali Edwards (26th) came in ahead of the next highest Lafayette finisher Brooke Perry (33rd).

Mount Carmel (98) took third followed by Sacred Heart (130) and Episcopal (155) came in fifth.

Twenty-two teams qualified in the scoring with 178 girls’ runners participating.

LaBorde continued her strong performance capturing her fourth individual race of the season. In her other two races, she has finished in second place twice. LaBorde led the race from start to finish.

SSA cross country coach Chris Pool described LaBorde as an incredible talent.

“Angela has a superb work ethic. She is a very determined runner, always giving it her best,” Pool said.

“It was my favorite race of the year. The weather felt good, and it was a good course. Being in front, it was easy to follow the guy on the bike. I had also warmed up on the course so I knew where I was going,” LaBorde said.

“I wanted to start out fast. I was able to hold on.”

LaBorde said it was a fantastic team victory with everyone running a PR.

“Our coach (Pool) was proud of our performance. The state meet is coming up and I think our team is doing really well so far,” LaBorde said.

Fontainebleau’s Amy Deeble (18:41) came in seventh place to help lead the Lady Bulldogs to a sixth place finish (177).
