Bennett (5-10), a 2006 St. Paul’s graduate, had a breakout season last year, averaging 12.6 points per game. He connected on 52-of-145 three-point attempts, hitting 36 percent from behind the arc. He made 41 percent of his two-point field goals, making 113-of-272 shots. He drained 86-of-111 free throw attempts (77 percent).
“It’s definitely a nice honor to be selected,” Bennett said. However, it doesn’t mean anything unless we win and do well. The team goals are what count. I think we can win conference. We have the guys that can do it,” Bennett said.

“As a team leader, I want to just do my part and contribute. I have to lead by example on the court for my younger teammates,” Bennett added.
Bennett, who is majoring in business management, played in all 29 games last season, helping Loyola to a 16-13 record. The Wolfpack was 9-9 in conference play, finishing in sixth place.
Loyola head basketball coach and athletic director Michael Giorlando said his club made some nice strides last season with Bennett being a big part of the turn around.
Giorlando described Bennett as a very fiery competitor, who has excellent shooting range.
“It’s nice for Sean to be recognized by the coaches of the league. Sean knows it doesn’t mean a whole lot though because it’s all about what happens on the court when the season begins,” Giorlando said.
Giorlando said Bennett is a great representative of St. Paul’s and the Northshore.
“Sean is one of our team leaders. He has watched and learned from the upper classmen, who were ahead of him. He is leading by example.”
Giorlando said Bennett and his teammates are looking forward to getting the season started to compete for a conference championship.
Loyola opens its season Oct. 31, hosting Carver Bible College at 7 p.m. at The Den.
