NCS tops Hannan

Northlake Christian School’s Lady Wolverines, the district champions, defeated Archbishop Hannan’s Lady Hawks, the second place team, 25-14, 25-8, 25-11, Thursday at home to remain unbeaten in district play at 9-0. NCS (22-9) closes out district play Tuesday at Lutheran.

Archbishop Hannan (8-14) stands at 7-2 in district. The Lady Hawks close out their district schedule Tuesday against Reserve Christian at home.

Brittany Scearce pounded 12 kills and served six aces to lead the Lady Wolverines’ attack. The versatile Hannah Miranda tallied 20 assists, seven kills and eight aces. Monica Raymond finished with nine kills, while Hannah Miller picked up 12 digs. Mary Wilson chipped in with 12 assists.

Hannan’s Katie Bailey notched seven kills and one ace. Natalie Powell, filling in for junior setter Kimmy Kirsch who sat out due to an illness, finished with eight assists and one ace. Emily Lee had three kills with an ace, while Julie Betz added two kills. Lauren Voelker served an ace.

FHS defeats

Slidell High

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs remained unbeaten in district play Thursday, sweeping Slidell, 25-9, 25-10, 25-14, at Slidell. FHS (29-5) moved to 12-0 in district with two games left. SHS (14-12) is 6-6 in district.

FHS’ Lindsey Barron ripped 13 kills and Jessica Guttierrez blasted 10 aces. McCrea Barney totaled 13 assists and Caitlyn Auxilien contributed eight digs.

SHS’ Kaitlyn Crippin finished with five kills and five assists, while Courtney Courtney posted six assists and three aces. Quinci Hayward tallied four kills and a block, while Hannah Gambrell contributed three kills and a block.

SSA tops Ponchatoula

St. Scholastica Academy swept Ponchatoula, 25-9, 25-11, 25-23, Thursday at Ponchatoula. SSA (25-6) upped its district record to 9-3. The Doves are in third place with two district games remaining. Camille Walther and Christina Wurm netted nine kills each with Meghan Clark leading the way with 28 assists.

Sam Delahoussaye and Monique Giarrusso pulled up 10 digs each. Giarrusso and Walther delivered two aces each.

SSA coach Danny Davis thought his players did a great job of dictating the tempo in the first two games. “We were kind of flat in the third game and Ponchatoula stepped up their game. We were fortunate to pull the match out in three games,” Davis said.   

Northshore beats Covington High

Northshore’s Alexa Hardy had 17 digs and 13 kills, helping the Lady Panthers to a 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, victory over Covington in a district match held Thursday at NHS.

The Lady Panthers (9-14) evened their district record at 6-6. Covington (4-15) is 2-10 in league play.

Tory Hearn posted 13 kills, 11 digs along with five aces for Northshore, while Catie Bates recorded 10 digs. Richelle Saluga passed for 29 assists, tallied 13 digs and got two aces.

University High defeats PJP II

University High knocked off Pope John Paul II, 25-20, 21-25, 25-10, 25-23, in a district match held Thursday at University High.

Brandy Monnin led PJP with 12 digs and two aces. Paige Bourquard dished out 11 assists to go with four digs and a pair of aces. Adriana Cutura recorded five kills, four digs and a block. Christa Roscigno tallied four kills and four digs. Kathryn Durret had five blocks.

Hannan sweeps Lutheran

Archbishop Hannan defeated Lutheran, 25-8, 25-23, 25-22, Wednesday in their first match played in their newly built gymnasium. Senior Katie Bailey came up big with 13 kills to spark the Lady Hawks. Natalie Powell contributed six kills followed by Julie Betz with four. Junior setter Kimmy Kirsch added three kills before she departed late in the first game suffering from dehydration.

SSA downs Northshore

St. Scholastica Academy’s Doves defeated Northshore, 25-12, 25-17, 25-12, in a district match played at SSA.

SSA’s Camille Walther finished with seven kills followed by Christina Wurm and Audrey Gitz with six apiece. Kristi Harrison and Shelby Fritscher netted five kills each. Junior setter Meghan Clark netted 32 assists, along with an uncharacteristic three blocks. Clark also served three aces. Sam Delahoussaye contributed 12 digs followed by Gitz and Monique Giarrusso with eight digs each.

SSA coach Danny Davis said his club kept its focus. “I thought we played extremely well coming off of the Newman Tournament (second place finish). I’m hoping we can continue to improve as the district season winds down,” Davis said.

Blair Doiron posted nine digs for Northshore, while Olivia Helmers had eight. Richelle Saluga recorded five digs, five assists and a kill. Alexa Hardy got five kills and four digs. Catie Bates finished with six digs.

Slidell sweeps Ponchatoula

Slidell’s Kaitlyn Crippin had six aces, seven kills and nine assists, helping her team beat Ponchatoula, 25-11, 25-8, 25-18, in a district match on the road Tuesday.

Quinci Hayward recorded six kills and a block for SHS, while Allison Dolan tallied eight kills, three digs and a pair of aces. Cameron Lowe served eight aces, while Hannah Gambrell got five kills and a block.

Covington beats Hammond

Covington’s Lady Lions swept the Hammond Lady Tornadoes, 25-12, 25-21, 25-22, Tuesday in district play at Hammond.

Rachel Smith continued her solid play to spark the Lady Lions in four categories. She recorded 14 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and three aces. Emily Smith finished with 14 assists.

FHS goes 3-3 in Newman tourney

 

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs finished in third place going 3-3 in the Newman Tournament held in New Orleans last weekend. FHS fell to Sacred Heart in its opener, 25-23, 25-22.

Lindsey Barron topped the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills. McCrea Barney finished with seven assists followed by Michelle Cabeceiras with six.

Caitlyn Auxilien totaled 10 digs followed by Jessica Guttierrez with six.

Taylor Anderson served two aces.

FHS rebounded to defeat Cabrini, 25-20, 25-16, led by Barron’s 11 kills. Guttierrez posted eight digs and five kills. Anderson netted 11 assists, while Cabeceiras added nine assists and seven digs.

Amanda Schneck had four kills and an ace. Haley Bonneval recorded five blocks and Auxilien delivered eight digs with an ace.

Dominican, the eventual tournament champion, defeated FHS, 21-25, 25-20, 15-4. Barron topped FHS with 12 kills.

She also collected seven digs and two blocks. Bonneval and Sarah Ulm added two blocks each. Cabeceiras topped the Lady Dawgs with 12 assists followed by McCrea Barney with eight.

Auxilien was credited with 12 assists. Anderson chipped in with six kills followed by Guttierrez and Schneck with four each.

FHS topped Notre Dame, 25-16, 25-8, again with Barron leading the way with a team-high10 kills and eight digs. Schneck came through with four kills and two aces. Guttierrez pulled up eight digs followed by Emily Sulzer with six.

Anderson finished with 11 assists and Cabeceiras had five.

Bonneval came up with four kills, while Ulm helped out at the net with three blocks.

FHS downed the host Newman squad, 25-23, 25-5, behind Barron’s seven kills.

Anderson had seven assists and three kills. Guttierrez added six digs and four blocks. Bonneval stood tall at the net with five blocks. Auxilien tallied six digs. Cabeceiras had four assists, while Barney served three aces.

FHS fell to district rival SSA, 25-18, 25-18, in a semifinal match despite Barron’s 11 kills. Barney and Cabeceiras combined for 13 assists.

Auxilien and Guttierrez each picked up nine digs, while Ulm totaled four blocks.
