Jonathan Lutman, 25, a two-year veteran of the police department, turned himself in Wednesday evening at police headquarters, said Capt. Kevin Foltz, Slidell police spokesman. Lutman was charged with theft over $500, theft of $100 and two counts of malfeasance in office. The added charges came after two Hispanic witnesses came forth and identified the former police officer as the person who stole money from them sometime between April 6 and June 27.
Foltz said the two witnesses came forward on July 17 and 22 after they saw a picture of Lutman posted in a Slidell store that caters to a Hispanic clientele.

The latest charges brings to 11 the number of Hispanic victims allegedly robbed by Lutman.
He was first arrested on July 11, after two victims came to police headquarters on June 27 to report the theft after they were stopped by Lutman in the 400 block of Pontchartrain Drive.
At first Lutman denied the charges, but after a month-long investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division, Lutman was arrested July 11 and charged with one count of theft over $500, eight counts of theft under $300 and four counts of malfeasance in office.
After his arrest, Lutman resigned from the police department and confessed to the thefts.
The total amount Lutman is alleged to have stolen is unknown, but Chief of Police Freddie Drennan said in July Lutman may have stolen more than $2,500 but less than $3,000. Foltz said he did not know the dates of the alleged robberies of the two latest victims.
According to Drennan, Lutman, a native of El Paso, Texas, had “a good record” as a police officer and he was “totally surprised” when Lutman was arrested.
Foltz was also surprised.
“He was a good and quiet kid. He didn’t even curse,” Foltz said.
In July, Drennan said no other Slidell police officers were involved in the thefts.
Foltz said that if convicted on the additional four charges, Lutman could face up to 20 years in jail and a fine of $14,000 or both.
After Lutman was booked he was transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail, and a bond of $5,750 was set.
