SSA finishes 2-2 in tournament

St. Scholastica Academy finished with a 2-2 record in the Dominican Tournament in New Orleans over the weekend. SSA lost its opener to Cabrini, 25-11, 19-25, 14-16, on Friday. Christina Wurm led the Doves with nine kills followed by Camille Walther with eight.

Meghan Clark netted 25 assists, with Sam Delahoussaye contributing 20 digs. Monique Giarrusso had three aces.

The Doves also fell to Mount Carmel on Friday, 25-17, 17-25, 10-15. Kristi Harrison finished with seven kills to lead the Doves, while Clark had 14 assists.

Delahoussaye picked up 16 digs. Wurm added two blocks, and Audrey Gitz chipped in with two aces.

The Doves picked up their first tournament victory Saturday, downing Destrehan, 25-21, 25-16. Walther totaled seven kills followed by Shelby Fritscher with six and Harrison five. Clark came through with 25 assists.

Delahoussaye continued her consistent defensive play with 15 digs. SSA also defeated Ursuline on Saturday, 25-18, 27-25.

Clark netted 17 assists along with six kills for the Doves. Harrison and Wurm each added six kills. Wurm also added two blocks. Delahoussaye had 11 digs and Giarrusso added seven.

SSA upped its overall record to 27-8 heading into yesterday’s district match with Covington.

SSA coach Danny Davis said his club didn’t have one of its better tournaments.  “I thought the kids played hard through their two losses on Friday evening,” Davis said. “They didn’t give up and I liked that. They came back the next day with two wins to even out their tournament record at 2-2.”  

Riverdale sweeps Salmen High

Riverdale beat the Salmen Lady Spartans, 25-20, 25-13, 25-14, in a district match Thursday at Riverdale.

Salmen (2-14) is 0-7 in district play.

Kristan Campbell led the Lady Spartans with 11 kills and two blocks. Monique Pack had nine assists and a pair of aces, while Aeriel Lara totaled seven digs.
