The Louisiana Treasury Office had close to $7 million of your money before the Unclaimed Property Awareness Day held recently at the St. Tammany Justice Center in Covington.

After a very low turnout, the treasury still has close to that amount, having only given away 97 properties totaling $13,794.26, Deputy State Treasurer Jason Redmond said.

Redmond said they will likely hold another event next year, but in the meantime, people can visit www.latreasury.com or call 888-982-4127 to find out if they have any unclaimed property.

In total, the treasury has more than $364 million in unclaimed property.

Those funds usually include old saving or checking accounts, un-cashed payroll checks, certificates of deposit, stocks and dividend payouts, insurance proceeds, oil and gas royalty payments, utility deposits and tax refunds.

Over the past 10 years the Treasury’s unclaimed property division has returned more than $153 million to 220,000 residents.
