Episcopal of Baton Rouge sweeps Pope John Paul II

The Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars’ volleyball season came to an end Monday at the hands of Episcopal of Baton Rouge with a 15-25, 16-25, 17-25 road loss in the bi-district round of the state playoffs.

PJP, the 14th seed, finished with a 4-19 record. Third-seeded Episcopal moves on to play sixth-seeded Newman tomorrow at 6:45 p.m. in the Pontchartrain Center.

Paige Bourquard led PJP with six kills, four assists, one dig and one block. Brandy Monnin finished with nine digs.

Michelle Pontiff dished out six assists while putting down a pair of kills.

Christa Roscigno tallied five digs.

Lady Jaguars’ coach Lonna Winslow talked about the match.

“The girls played hard,” Winslow said. “Episcopal just played better.”

Winslow also summed up the season by saying, “We had some ups and downs. Injuries were the biggest problem. The girls played the best they could.”

The coach said some of the players who missed time included setter Pontiff along with middle blockers Carmen Wingerter and Ashley Lang.

Looking ahead to next year, the Jaguars will lose four seniors, Monnin, Pontiff, Wingerter and Kathryn Durrett.
