Our Lady of Lourdes groundbreaking set

Published on Monday, November 10, 2008 9:45 AM CST

The priests at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Slidell have moved out of their FEMA trailers and into their newly renovated rectory.

The event marks the start of a long road home for the institution. The Rev. Frank Lipps had said that as long as parishioners were still living in trailers he would do so as well. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new school and church are scheduled for this week.

The school groundbreaking will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the site of the old school on Westchester Boulevard. Several church groundbreaking ceremonies will be held the weekend of Nov. 15-16, beginning at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, just before the evening mass.

Ceremonies will continue at 8:10 a.m. on Sunday, and another, the Solemn Blessing, will take place just after the 10:30 a.m. mass.

A fourth and final ceremony will be held at 6:10 p.m., just prior to that evening’s mass.

Bishop Shelton Fabre will be at the 10:30 a.m. mass, and a light reception will take place after the ceremony. All groundbreaking ceremonies for the church will be at the building site of the new facility on the corner of Westchester Boulevard and Oxford Street.

“We are about to see our dreams become reality and we invite everyone to share this momentous occasion,” said the Rev. Kyle Dave.
