Andrew Cosse BY St. Tammany NewsNorthshore High senior Andrew Cossé is heavily involved in with his school. He plays football and baseball. Off the field he is a member of Key Club, Student Council, Alpha Society, National Honor Society and Spanish National Society. Even with all that, Cossé still takes care of business in the classroom. He has a 4.45 grade point average and takes four honors classes. When he’s on the gridiron, Cossé spends very little time on the sidelines, as he is a wide receiver, holder, and he returns kickoffs along with punts. This year, Cossé has caught 25 passes for 402 yards and a touchdown. He is also one-of-four team captains. The other three are offensive lineman Chris Faulk along with senior linebackers Chris Ruiz and Chris Wade. This season, he helped NHS to a 7-2-overall record in the regular season and tied St. Paul’s for second place in District 6-5A. This week, his squad is preparing to host a playoff game against St. Thomas More as a 16th seed. Last season, Cossé was named as an honorable mention for all-district. Northshore football coach Mike Bourg talked about Cossé. “Andrew Cossé is a kid that has started since his sophomore year,” Bourg said. “He has come out everyday and worked his butt off. Since his sophomore year, he has led by example and he’s a class act. Because of that, he was voted unanimously to be a team captain.” Bourg added that Cossé does a good job at receiver. “Andrew’s got great hands and he finds a way to get open,” Bourg said. “He has improved his speed. He’s a clutch player and a good possession receiver.” On the diamond, Cossé is the Panthers’ center fielder. Last year, he helped Northshore to a 22-13 overall record and a district title with an 11-3 mark. Cossé was named to the first-team all-district squad as an outfielder for hitting .419 with two homers and nine runs batted in during district. He scored 11 runs, while stealing three bases. He was also a tough out, striking out just five times in 43-district at bats. NHS baseball coach Rick Mauldin said Cossé is a hard worker. “Andrew Cossé is a guy you build a program around,” Mauldin said. “Sometimes I wonder how much fun he’s having because he’s so intense. He comes to practice with his gameface on. He prepares himself everyday for a ballgame. He’s a silent leader, but when he speaks, people listen.” Mauldin recalled a playoff game against C.E. Byrd last season. Byrd jumped on Northshore, 5-1, in the fourth inning. Mauldin said Cossé told the team they needed to wake up. The Panthers came back and won 10-6.
