Salmen’s Spartans take on the Bossier Bearkats at home at 7 tonight in a bi-district round playoff game.

The No. 6 Spartans enter the playoffs on a good note, winning their last six games. Bossier (5-5) finished with a 3-4 mark in District 1-4A and is the 27th seed.

Salmen began the season with a 1-2 record, having lost to perennial powerhouse John Curtis. The second setback was against Independence. Then the Spartans began their winning streak by beating Sarah T. Reed. They went 5-0 during the district season to capture the title.

Last week, Salmen sealed the outright District 9-4A championship with a 49-0 victory over Riverdale.

The winner of this game takes on the victorious team between No. 11 Franklinton and 22nd seeded O. Perry Walker.

Offensively, the Spartans run the spread. Last week, sophomore Daniel Sams continued his stellar play by accounting for three touchdowns. He threw for a pair of scores to senior wide receiver Isiah Tate from 10 and 16 yards out. Sams also ran for a 1-yard touchdown for the Spartans.

The offense also got a TD from Errol Scott, who opened the scoring with a 58-yard run.

The Spartans will be going against a defense that bases out of a 4-2-5, but it varies throughout the game.

Bossier coach Michael Concilio said his top defenders are inside linebacker Trenton Parsons and lineman Zantreall Houston.

Offensively, the Bearkats run the Flex-bone and base it around the Wing-T.

Concilio said they are a run-oriented team. The quarterback is Tevin Hall. His fullback is Cory Eason and the running backs are Antonio Rainey and Verndell Winn.

Defensively, Salmen runs a 3-3. The unit put a pair of touchdowns on the board in last week’s game. With Riverdale driving the ball to Salmen’s 15 last week, Chrishawn Dupuy ended the possession by intercepting a pass and bringing it back for a touchdown.

David Edgerson also made his presence known when he intercepted a pass and brought it back 38 yards for a score in the third quarter.
