Petty-Flaniken

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Jamar Flaniken, of Somerville, Tenn., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Rachel Flaniken, to David Crit Petty Jr., of Slidell. Parents of the groom-elect are Mr. and Mrs. David Crit Petty Sr., of Slidell.

Miss Flaniken is the granddaughter of Sam Carter Boswell of Somerville and the late Mrs. Sally Boswell and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jamar Flaniken of Germantown. She is a 2002 graduate of Fayette Academy and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a minor in education and a Master of Science in Theory and Practice in Teacher Education, magna cum laude.

While attending UT, she was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. After teaching a year at Alcoa Elementary, she moved to Slidell, where she is teaching kindergarten at Bonne Ecole Elementary.

MARY RACHEL FLANIKEN

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Crit Petty and the late Mr. Petty and Mrs. Freeman Heck and the late Mr. Heck.

Petty is a 2001 graduate of Slidell High School and a graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Constructional Management. He is attending the University of New Orleans, pursuing a degree in civil engineering. He is currently working in the constructional engineering department of Chevron, Inc.

The couple will solemnize their vows at the First Presbyterian Church in Somerville on Nov. 22 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.
