For a second straight week, sophomore wide receiver/kick returner Michael Galatas of Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after a solid performance in a 50-6 homecoming win over Colorado College last Saturday.

Millsaps (9-0) earned its first outright SCAC title since 2006 as the Majors moved to 7-0 in conference play.

Galatas, a 5-foot-9, 170-pounder, graduated from Fontainebleau High in 2007.

He became the first Major to return a punt for a score since 2006, taking a punt late in the third quarter back 49 yards for his first career special teams touchdown.

He also had a 69-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after a Millsaps’ safety called back on a penalty, the second time that’s happened in as many weeks (85-yard return last week at Trinity).

On the year, Galatas is averaging 18.8 yards per punt and 25.1 yards per kick return in addition to 28 catches for 448 yards (second on the team) and four touchdowns. He is averaging 100 all-purpose yards per game.

He is the son of Michael and Euradel Galatas of Lacombe.
