Pearl River, De La Salle play to a tie

Pearl River tied De La Salle at 2-2 in its opener at Jefferson Playground Tuesday.

PRHS was down 2-0 until Vincent Piazza cut the lead in the second half with a goal on a pass from Ernesto Armador midway through.

The Rebels knotted the match when Patrick Charbonnett tallied on a corner kick with 15 minutes remaining in the match.

St. Martin’s

Northlake Christian School captured its second consecutive shut out Wednesday as the Wolverines blanked St. Martin’s 2-0 in non-district play in Metairie. NCS’ Kevin Pence tallied an unassisted goal in the 24th minute to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead, which they took into halftime. Max Miller netted a goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Christian Landry to close out the scoring. Jeffrey George was in goal for the Wolverines and was credited with 12 saves in the shut out. NCS coach Nick Chetta said it was a great overall team performance.

St. Paul’s edged by Brother Martin

St. Paul’s Wolves came up short Tuesday, falling to Brother Martin, 1-0. The Crusaders’ Jordan Scott tallied the game’s lone goal in the 50th minute after the teams had played through a scoreless tie. Brother Martin’s Nathan Dean played the first half, and Kevin Mangum tended net in the second half.

St. Paul’s Chad Cox was named the Wolves’ top defender. Brother Martin took six shots on goal, while St. Paul’s attempted four.

NCS blanks Ridgwood

Northlake Christian School’s Christian Landry netted a hat trick Monday at home to lead the Wolverines to a 7-0 victory over the Ridgewood Golden Eagles. Kenny Haar, Weston Acosta, Chad Broussard and Kevin Pence added goals. Zak Smith was the winning goal keeper. NCS held a 5-0 halftime lead.

PJP tops

Slidell

Pope John Paul II beat Slidell Wednesday, 3-1, behind two goals and an assist from Catherine Luparello. The match was scoreless at halftime.

One of Luparello’s tallies was unassisted, and the other came on a free kick. Ashley Allen recorded PJP’s other goal on a pass from Luparello.

Slidell’s Katie Borchert posted the Lady Tigers’ netter on a pass from Julie Collier.

Pearl River loses to Belle Chasse

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels suffered a 7-3 setback to Belle Chasse in their opening match of the season.

Belle Chasse led 5-0 at halftime, but PRHS got two goals from Kim Treese. Her first one was on a penalty kick, and the second tally was unassisted. Mary Beth Ohlenforst netted Pearl River’s final goal on a pass from Cristen Averette.
