Our View

Congratulations to the Northlake Christian School Lady Wolverine volleyball team, which captured the Division V state volleyball championship Saturday at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

It was the second straight championship for the team, which found itself down and nearly out Saturday before rallying from two games down to beat Episcopal School of Acadiana, the same team it beat last year for the title.

The team is coached by Michelle Anderson and assistant Jimmy Miranda, and has established itself as a powerhouse in the sport, defeating teams this season in all classifications.

Northlake Christian's success on the court is only a byproduct of the young ladies' success off the court.

Winning is exciting, but winning with class and humility, as these girls did, is an example for future teams to follow.

And these girls aren’t the only ones who deserve our congratulations.

The Fontainebleau Lady Bulldogs, who advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament last year, advanced to the finals of Division I this year before falling to St. Joseph’s Academy, a perennial power in the sport.

The Lady Bulldogs had an amazing run to make their first championship game appearance, and behind coach Danny Tullis, did a great job representing St. Tammany Parish.

Again, our congratulations to these two teams on outstanding seasons and championship runs.
