Known only as Johnny B., he began his journey in Flagler Beach, Fla., just over a year ago, towing a handmade trailer with only a dog named Kitty Kat for company.
Somewhere near Pensacola she gave birth to 10 pups, and one of them, Pepsi, now rides with them.

“I’m not affiliated with them in any way, I’m just trying to get the word out,” he said. “I had polio as a child, and they don’t turn any kids away, so they’re my favorite charity.”
He’s had his share of mishaps. He was arrested in Gulfport, Miss., after he stopped for a quick meal and a couple of beers, then happened to ask a police officer for a safe place to park his trailer. The dogs were hauled off to the Humane Society, and it cost Johnny B. $300 to bail himself out and get his pals back.
He also bought a motor to assist him in hauling the nearly 500-pound trailer, but the magnets fell off two days later.
“I’m hoping I can hold out until my check comes in to get it fixed,” he said, “but maybe some kind person along the way can help me out.”
Multiple flat tires are a constant nuisance as well, but otherwise he’s managed to stay out of harm’s way, riding back roads and bike trails as he makes his way across the country.
