Published on Sunday, November 30, 2008 1:35 AM CST

The Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire St., will be celebrating the season Saturday from 3 p.m. until dusk.

“Deck the rails” will feature entertainment and activities, including story time with Covington librarian Jean Perrault, “Shrinky Dink” ornament making by artist Peggy Schoen, dance, puppets and music by We 3.

The Cajun Christmas Tales Gator will be there, and everyone can hear the tale of “Boudreaux—The Bright Red Crawfish.” The lighting of the Trailhead holiday lights will take place at dusk.

Also as part of the celebration, a railroading exhibit, “Model Railroading — A Labor of Love,” will be on display from 3-5 p.m.

The exhibit will also be open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. through Jan. 1, 2009. All types of trains will be on exhibit courtesy of the Crescent City S-Gaugers model train organization. The exhibit is built 1/64 scale or S-scale and features a swamp, city, bridges, refinery, switching yard and more.

Members will be on site to provide tours of the exhibit and model railroading.

The exhibit is free to the public. Organizations and schools can call 892-1873 to reserve viewing times for field trips.
