Slidell man dies after wreck on I-10 A Slidell man died early Saturday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 10. Around midnight Friday, Curtis Jones, 74, a New Orleans reserve police officer, was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, an NOPD unit, eastbound on I-10 just before the Oak Harbor exit when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle veered to the right and exited the roadway. Once off the roadway the car traveled approximately 149 feet and hit a tree, Senior Trooper Louis Calato of State Police Troop L said. Jones, a resident of Slidell, was transported to Northshore Regional Medical Center by Acadian ambulance, where he died of his injuries. Calato said Jones was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, and alcohol or drug use is not suspected.
