Around midnight Friday, Curtis Jones, 74, a New Orleans reserve police officer, was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, an NOPD unit, eastbound on I-10 just before the Oak Harbor exit when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle veered to the right and exited the roadway. Once off the roadway the car traveled approximately 149 feet and hit a tree, Senior Trooper Louis Calato of State Police Troop L said.
Jones, a resident of Slidell, was transported to Northshore Regional Medical Center by Acadian ambulance, where he died of his injuries.

I did not know Officer Jones, but a dear friend mine had the pleasure of working with him on Friday night as he completed his last watch. The oofficer had nothing but kind things to say of Mr. Jones and in the time they spent together it is evident that Mr. Jones was a God believing man.
May God continue to keep and bless the family of Curtis Jones. "
