Northlake Christian School scored five goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to break open a 1-0 soccer match and win 7-0 over the Salmen Spartans (0-3) Tuesday afternoon at NCS. Northlake Christian has yet to allow a goal this season.

“The second half was incredible,” said Wolverines’ coach Nick Chetta.

Northlake Christian (3-0) led 1-0 at the break, but in the second half, NCS came out with an onslaught of goals.

Just two minutes into the half, Daniel Haar dribbled the ball and scored his first of two tallies to put NCS up 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Chad Broussard had the assist.

Three minutes later, Christian Landry went top shelf for his second goal, and it was 3-0.

“I just crossed over the guy, cut back and ripped it to the corner. I felt confident I could make it. I’ve been getting better in practice of making shots like that,” Landry said.

In the 47th minute, Haar got his second goal as Salmen’s goalkeeper came out and Haar kicked it by him.

But the Wolverines weren’t done yet. NCS had a corner kick that found Broussard, and he put the ball in the net for a 5-0 advantage in the 50th minute.

Then Kevin Pence added another one as he put the ball into the top left corner, making it 6-0.

Chetta said getting the goals early in the second half were big.

“The (five) goals early, when you play a team like Salmen, they’re very physical and they have a lot of heart. If it’s tight, it’s 1-0, they’re going to go harder and harder. A team like that, if you can get a couple goals and try to like silence or make them quiet, you can do that,” Chetta said.

Seventh-grader Max Miller added a late goal to cap the scoring at 7-0.

Salmen coach Tim Rogers said NCS played a better game.

“They outplayed us almost the entire game, I thought,” Rogers said. “They came out ready to play, and I don’t think we did. It showed in the second half.”

In the first half, the Wolverines spent a lot of time in the offensive zone. NCS had a chance to break a scoreless match in the third minute when Landry got close, but Salmen’s Edmond Fernandez came up with a nice defensive play and kicked the ball away.

NCS had several shots at the goal but were unable to connect. Finally in the 13th minute, Landry put his team ahead, 1-0. Salmen attempted a goal kick but turned it over, and Landry hit the back of the net.
