PJP II goes 3-0

in Fisher tourney

Pope John Paul II went 3-0 in the Fisher Tournament held Monday through Wednesday.

The Jaguars are 4-2.

PJP opened the tournament by beating Belle Chasse on Monday. The Jags beat Lusher, 68-27, on Tuesday.

Scott Joffe, Matt Binder and Taylor Davie all had 12 in the win. Ryan Palmisano tallied 11.

PJP closed the tournament by outlasting St. Charles Catholic, 58-55, in overtime Wednesday.

Joffe led the way with 31 points, while Binder posted 11 and Joel Price recorded eight.

Hannan beats Lutheran

Archbishop Hannan defeated the Lutheran Gryphons, 56-31, in a non-district game held on the road Tuesday.

The Hawks, who led by as much as 30 in the season half, are 2-1 this season.

Hannan’s Eddie Laine topped the team with 17 points, while Ben Condon posted nine. Pat Munger tallied 15 rebounds.

Girls

FHS falls in finals of tournament

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs went 2-1 in the Christian Life Tournament, falling, 44-30, to Redemptorist in the finals.

Rebekah Crandle and Nicole Gurievsky were named to the all-tournament team.

FHS is 4-1 this season.

In the finals, Crandle and Jennifer Beehler each had eight points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Gurievsky scored seven.

FHS began the competition by beating the host team, 60-45, behind a double-double by Gurievsky, who scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Crandle had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals. Dani Revon scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards.

On Tuesday, FHS erased a six-point deficit with about 1:30 left and came back to knock off Parkview Baptist, 46-45.

Beehler topped the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Crandle and Gurievsky each scored nine.

CHS goes 1-1

in tournament

Covington’s Lady Lions split their games in the Hammond Tournament held Monday-Tuesday.

CHS is 3-3 this season.

The Lady Lions opened the event with a 74-42 loss against St. Thomas Aquinas.

Kenyata Barney scored eight points, while Rachel Smith and Emily Smith each tallied six points. Charlishia Bradford posted six points and seven rebounds.

Covington came back Tuesday and knocked off Jewel Sumner, 75-56, behind Bradford and Rachel Smith’s double-double.

Rachel Smith scored 17 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists, while Bradford had 14 points and 10 boards. Myria Cyprian had 11 points.

Emily Smith posted 19 points, six assists and five steals. Gloria Darby registered eight rebounds.

CHS posts 1-2 record in tourney

Covington went 1-2 in the Denham Springs Tournament held Nov. 19-22.

The Lady Lions opened with a 65-42 loss against Dutchtown.

Emily Smith led CHS with 14 points, while Myria Cyprian scored 10.

CHS rebounded from the loss and beat Port Allen, 51-38, on Nov. 20.

Bradford scored 14 points, while Rachel Smith had 12.

Then the Lady Lions fell to the host team, 79-42.

Rachel Smith finished with eight points.

    " if we work as a team with great leaders we will win at the end, you have to play all 4 quaters not just one. so until we play as a team we wont win at all "
