PJP II, PRHS, Salmen, NHS in Battle on Bayou
Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars, Pearl River’s Lady Rebels and Salmen’s Lady Spartans all went 2-2 in the Battle on the Bayou basketball tournament held Nov. 23-26 at the Alerio Center. Northshore finished the competition 1-3.

Spartans captures Classic victory
Salmen’s Spartans took care of business Friday night downing host Mandeville 53-41 in the championship game of the Skipper Classic led by tournament MVP Daron Populist’s 20 points. With Salmen trailing 33-29 entering the fourth quarter, Populist came up clutch dropping in 12 of his points. He drained two 3-pointers and made 6-of-6 free throws to wrap up the title for the Spartans.

Mandeville’s Skippers held off a pesky Northlake Christian School Wolverines squad 63-55 Wednesday night in the 2008 Skipper Classic. Senior Jordane Ganapamo hit for a game-high 25 points to offset an amazing shooting performance by NCS senior point guard Josh Ryan, who finished with 23 points, clicking on 7-of-9 three point attempts.

Salmen’s R.J. Scott scored 16 points in a defensive ballgame that saw the Spartans knock off Slidell, 40-33, in a game held Tuesday at Salmen.

Mandeville remained unbeaten on the season as the Lady Skippers blanked the Slidell Lady Tigers 3-0 Tuesday night in the district opener for both clubs played at Skipper Stadium. MHS (9-0) got two goals from sophomore Emily Descant and one from Julia Hunter en route to the shutout. Slidell slipped to 1-2 overall.
