Boys

CHS downs Varnado

Covington ran past the Varnado Wildcats 89-60 Tuesday at home with five players in double figures led by Jordan Bedford’s game-high 24 points. Terrance Singleton finished with 15 in the Lions’ balanced attack followed by Darren Lee with 11. The Bickham brothers, Jarius and Phillip, added 10 points each. Joel Bailey chipped in with nine points and Tank Mizell added six.

CHS upped its season record to 6-3, while Varnado suffered its first loss of the season. Javantue Bell topped the Wildcats with 13 points and Da’Nelus Holmes had 10. CHS outscored Varnado 26-11 in the first period.

Northshore loses to Picayune

Northshore suffered a 67-55 setback to Picayune at home Tuesday in non-district action. NHS (0-4) trailed 47-39 after the third quarter and got to within four, but Picayune made a run at the end. Jervious Epherson scored 18 points, while Chris Ruiz had 14 and David Heumann tallied nine. All three players connected on three 3-pointers.

Ridgewood downs Hannan

Hannan’s Hawks fell to Ridgewood 39-20 Tuesday in a game played in Metairie. Despite causing 29 turnovers, the Hawks could not find the bottom of the net, making only 6-of-53 shots from the floor. Hannan’s Pat Munger scored six points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Josh Bono and Eddie Laine contributed 5 points each for the Hawks.

First Baptist

beats Gables

First Baptist Christian School outscored Gables Academy, 71-10, in the second half, grabbing a 98-34 victory in a road game held Tuesday.

Eagles’ coach Scott Reine said most of the second-half scoring was steals and uncontested lay ups. First Baptist was 6-5 heading into yesterday’s action.

Caleb Earhart led the Eagles with 24 points, while Anthony Benasco scored 13. Jim Watson and Tredon Peterson had 10 points and Donovan Fredericks tallied nine points.

Northshore

beats Cabrini

Northshore’s Lady Panthers knocked off Cabrini, 60-42 in a non-district home game Tuesday. NHS (4-6) got 14 points from Tory Hearn, while Dejean Flemings posted 11. Amber Smith registered 10 and Carlyn Franckiewicz recorded nine.

Pearl River defeats Pine

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels collected a 56-41 road victory over Pine in a road game held Tuesday. PRHS (4-3) was led by Missy Pichon with 17 points, while Caitlyn Harper tallied 13. Gabby Jeansonne had nine and Katie Guido contributed eight.

Northshore loses to Dominican

Nortshore’s Lady Panthers suffered a 66-42 loss to Dominican in a road game held Saturday. NHS trailed 39-30 in the third quarter with the ball, but coach Mark Beason said Dominican’s press hurt the Lady Panthers. Dejean Flemings had 16 points and Haley Haddad posted eight.
