Group seeks items for homeless pets The Animal Assistance League of Slidell is asking residents to keep the area’s homeless pets in mind this holiday season. Many homeless animals suffer from exposure to cold and lack of food during this time of year, and many are brought to the Slidell Animal Shelter for care. Among the items needed are liquid bleach, new or used bath towels and washcloths, canned puppy and kitten food, dog and cat toys, medicated or all-purpose pet shampoo, large and small litter pans, puppy pads, paper towels, hand sanitizer and much more. AAL Volunteer Coordinator Gwen McGrath said gift cards are also gladly accepted. Chartered in 1983, the Animal Assistance League of Slidell is a reorganization of the original Slidell Humane Society and is a nonprofit organization that works hand-in-hand with Slidell Animal Control. Its main goal is to teach citizens to show compassion for all living creatures, as well as to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.
