Christopher Barber, 44, 8816 Mailino Place, Diamondhead, Miss., was brought back to Slidell Thursday and booked on the 20 counts of theft that go back to November 2006.
Slidell police spokesman Capt. Kevin Foltz said Barber and his wife, Samantha, owned Discount Furniture Liquidators on Gause Boulevard in 2006. According to Foltz, the Barbers would take the money for furniture orders but never delivered the furniture to the customers. When customers tried to reach Barber, he would either not respond or stall the victims.

A customer complained to the police in November 2006, and detectives started an investigation.
In late November 2006, the Federal Trade Commission closed down Barber’s store for failure to pay sales taxes, Foltz said. Detectives put out warrants on the Barbers, and Samantha was arrested Oct. 22, 2007, on an outstanding warrant for theft. Foltz did not know the disposition of her case.
Detectives kept receiving complaints about the furniture store, and after awhile, 20 warrants for theft were filed against Barber.
“We took a lot of reports on this,” Foltz said.
Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Barber, but Foltz did not know if he was arrested for a crime in Mississippi. When deputies saw Barber had 20 theft warrants outstanding, they transported him to Slidell, where he was booked.
