Keep Slidell Beautiful was honored with another in a long list of awards recently at the Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Washington D.C.

KSB was honored with the prestigious William Nash Award for its work in cleaning up Slidell after Hurricane Katrina.

The award is named after William Nash, who was instrumental in building the network of affiliates that make up the Keep America Beautiful organization.

Slidell Council President Raymond Canada, left, Wanda Beelman and Bill Mauser, executive director of Keep Slidell Beautiful accept the William Nash Award from Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Matt McKenna Thursday in Washington, D.C.

KSB officially became an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful in 2007.

“In just two years, Keep Slidell Beautiful has become a model affiliate worthy of national recognition,” said Matthew McKenna, president of Keep America Beautiful.

KAB recognized the Slidell affiliate for its efforts to clear debris and litter from the city after Hurricane Katrina.

“When one of history’s greatest natural disaster struck, Keep Slidell Beautiful was able to return the city to a state of beauty and was instrumental in lifting the spirits of the community,” McKenna said during the presentation.

KSB was also recognized for the many anti-litter programs it has initiated in the city, such as the many citywide cleanups, bayou cleanup, a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, the Adopt-A–Street and Cigarette Litter Prevention programs, plus other initiatives like Clean School, Parade Anti-Litter Program and getting students involved in the beautification of Slidell.
