Three years after Hurricane Katrina dumped four feet of water into their Oak Harbor home, Larry and Merryanne Welch are opening it to the public Sunday during the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell’s 4th Annual Tour of Homes.

The 5,200-square-foot home, built by the late Al Savoie, is one of three in Oak Harbor that will be included on the tour, which will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Located at 17 Harbor Cove, it features wide plank maple hardwood floors and large picture windows with a view of the water in all main rooms.

The Welch’s home will serve as the host home for the tour, which will also include homes located at 424 Elmhurst and 303 W. Honors Point Court.

JAS Fundraising Chair Lucy Hamilton said all of the homes would be lavishly decorated for the holidays, and feature a number of unique features.

“Visitors will see a built-in child’s fantasy bed, beautiful faux-painted walls, and patios with summer kitchens,” she said. “All of the homes have custom kitchen cabinets and pools, too.”

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased from any JAS member or from Accents & Things, 2056 E. Gause Blvd in the Cross Gates Shopping Center, The Purple Armadillo at 58465 Tyler Drive, No. 7, Simply Divine at 1354 Corporate Square Blvd., and either location of Cross Gates Athletic Club. Maps to the homes will be included.

All proceeds from the Tour of Homes will be used to fund 15 community service projects of JAS, including College Bound Scholarships, Juniors in Service, K-Bar-B Buddy Brigade, and Safe and Strong.
