Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars, Pearl River’s Lady Rebels and Salmen’s Lady Spartans all went 2-2 in the Battle on the Bayou basketball tournament held Nov. 23-26 at the Alerio Center. Northshore finished the competition 1-3.

PJP opened the event with a 39-33 victory over St. Amant on Nov. 23. Ashley Allen led the Lady Jags with 12 points and three rebounds, while Danielle Olivier posted 11 points, eight boards and two blocks. Alex Durant added nine points and five rebounds.

PJP II suffered a 41-36 setback in its second game held Nov. 25. Olivier recorded 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Michelle Pontiff scored eight points, six rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

On Nov. 26, the Lady Jaguars won by forfeit over Academy of the Sacred Heart before dropping a heartbreaking loss to St. Scholastica Academy, 40-38.

SSA’s Kayleigh Chiasson, who tallied a game-high 22 points, scored the game’s final basket with .3 seconds left. PJP’s Pontiff scored 10 points with 13 rebounds, five assists, five steals and five blocks. Allen posted 10 points, two rebounds and a pair of steals. Taylor Martin came off the bench and tallied eight points, three rebounds and three steals.

Pearl River lost its first two games before coming back to capture the final two.

The Lady Rebels fell to John Ehret, 64-34, on Nov. 25. Missy Pichon led PRHS with 18 points. Katie Guido and Kyra Washington each tallied six. Later that same day, PRHS suffered a 45-37 loss to Zachary. Caitlyn Harper scored 17 points and Pichon posted 7.

PRHS came back to win both games on Nov. 26 by beating West Jefferson, 56-42, behind Pichon’s 25 points. Guido and Gail Walker each had 10 in the victory.

Pearl River knocked off Central Lafourche, 67-47, on Pichon’s 27 points.

Harper totaled 21 and Gabby Jeansonne posted nine.

Salmen began the tourney on Nov. 25 by falling to Dutchtown, 59-41. Samara Dingiswayo scored 12 points for the Lady Spartans. But Salmen rebounded from the loss that day with a 44-41 victory against Central Lafourche. Rica Smith totaled 14 points, while Dingiswayo had 12. The next day, Salmen beat Assumption, 57-41. Smith had 23 points, while Dingiswayo scored 18 and Kristan Campbell recorded 12. In their final game, Salmen lost to John Ehret, 63-39. Lady Spartans’ coach Kevin Anderson said the score was 27-26 in the middle of the third quarter when Campbell rolled her ankle and Chelsie James fouled out. Dingiswayo led the team with 19 and James scored 11 points.

Northshore opened the tournament on Nov. 25 by suffering a 38-37 setback against Vandebilt Catholic. Dejean Flemings topped the Lady Panthers with 10 points, followed by Carlyn Franckiewicz with nine. Then NHS fell to Mount Carmel Academy, 42-34, on Nov. 25. Tory Hearn scored 14. On Nov. 26, NHS collected a 43-39 victory over Helen Cox. Hearn had 13 points, while Franckiewicz posted nine and Haley Haddad tallied eight. The Lady Panthers wrapped things up with a 54-36 loss to St. Joseph’s Academy.

Flemings posted 11 points.
