Northlake Christian School senior Josh Ryan is the Wolverines starting point guard. He has played basketball at NCS since he arrived as a freshman. This year he ran cross country for the first time and plans on running track. He is also planning on going out for the baseball team.

Ryan is averaging 12.4 points per game along with 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals. He collected six steals in the season opening 51-44 victory against Pearl River.

NCS (3-2) participated in the Skipper Classic last week. Ryan connected on 7-of-9 three-point attempts in a 63-55 loss to Class 5A Mandeville, finishing with 23 points. Last Thursday, he collected two 3-pointers with 11 points in a 40-39 overtime victory against Warren Easton. He followed that with three treys in a 48-42 loss to Destrehan on Friday.

Ryan described himself as an energy player.

“I like to bring energy to the game. I enjoy keeping my teammates pumped to get them going,” Ryan said.

“Being a senior on the basketball team kind of puts pressure on me. I’m expected to lead my team and you want to play really well for your school,” Ryan said.

Wolverines’ head basketball coach Andy Allen described Ryan as a player, who always gives you 100 percent.

“Josh ran cross country this year and got in really good shape. He plays wide open all the time. He hustles and plays hard from the opening whistle,” Allen said.

Allen said Ryan has excellent range on his jump shot and is one of the Wolverines’ best players.
