Boys

Local teams in Ecole tourney

Pope John Paul II went 3-0 and First Baptist Christian School went 0-3 in the Ecole Classique Tournament held Thursday through Saturday.

PJP was 7-2 at Tuesday’s press time. The Jaguars opened the tournament by beating the host school, 75-36. Scott Joffe led PJP with 15 points, while Calvin Brazley scored 12. Taylor Davie and Ryan Palmisano each finished with 11.

PJP came back on Friday and beat Lusher, 58-20.

Davie tallied 12 points, while Matt Binder posted 11, Joel Price posted 10 and Joffe registered eight.

The Jags knocked off First Baptist, 80-20, behind Davie’s 22 points Saturday.

Joffe and Luke Shields each finished with 10 and Palmisano tallied eight.

First Baptist

beats Lutheran

First Baptist Christian School knocked off Lutheran in a home game held Monday as Caleb Earhart led the Eagles with 18 points. The Eagles are 7-8 this season.

Jonathan Fredericks tallied 12 points, all 3-pointers.

SPS competes CYO Tournament

St. Paul’s Wolves ran into some tough competition last week in the CYO Tournament.

SPS (5-4) lost to the Jesuit 63-44 Wednesday with the Blue Jays’ Rontrell Edwards scoring 15 points followd by Dominick Scelfo with 14 points all in the second half. SPS trailed 25-16 at the half.

Josh White led the Wolves with 14 points followed by Morgan Wells with eight. Derek Arnold pulled down seven rebounds and recorded three steals.

In Thursday’s game, St. Paul’s trimmed McMain 52-49 in overtime. Jeff Coote had 10 points and five assists, scored four of St. Paul’s six points in OT. Luke Baumgartner, who topped the Wolves with 13 points, made two free throws in overtime. Baumgartner drained three treys. Arnold hit for eight points and delivered three assists.

On Saturday, SPS fell to Brother Martin 63-39. White tallied 16 points for the Wolves with 11 first half points on three treys. Jonathan Schoen and Baumgartner added five points each. Arnold had seven rebounds.

Girls

Pearl River downs Covington

Pearl River’s Missy Pichon tallied 28 points in a 70-33 victory over Covington in a non-district game held Friday at CHS. Katie Guido finished with 15, while Caitlyn Harper put up 12 and Gabby Jeansonne registered nine.

CHS’ Rachel Smith had 12 points.

SSA trims

Cabrini

St. Scholastica Academy’s Doves came up short Monday, falling to Cabrini 46-43 on the road. Carly Keller topped the Doves with 17 points and Kaleigh Chiasson added 12. Elly Schoen finished with five. SSA (5-6) is hosting the Doves fourth annual invitational tournament today through Saturday with 12 teams competing.

The tournament features lots of local talent with six St. Tammany Parish Schools participating, including the host Doves, Mandeville, Northlake Christian School, Pearl River, Pope John Paul II and Salmen.

Pearl River knocks off St. Mary’s

Pearl River’s Missy Pichon scored 24 points in a 60-17-home win over St. Mary’s Monday. The Lady Rebels are 5-3. Katie Guido scored 14 points, while Caitlyn Harper along with Gabby Jeansonne each posted eight.

First Baptist defeats Lutheran

First Baptist Christian School’s Lady Eagles beat Lutheran High, 40-12, in a home game held Monday. Hannah Jones scored 14 points, while Sara Jones tallied 12 and Sara Petty recorded eight.

MHS goes 1-2

in tourney

Mandeville’s Lady Skippers participated in the Hammond Lady Tornadoes Roundup last week. MHS (2-4) routed St. Amant Wednesday 68-19 behind Hannah Tracey’s 15 points. Amy Howard finished with 12 points and Adrienne Myers netted 10. Katie Lindelow added eight points and Amanda Zemke had six.

In Thursday’s game, MHS fell to Destrehan 66-53. Howard topped the Lady Skippers with 19 points followed by Tracey with 11. Mel Gaines dropped in eight points and Zemke had five.

In Friday’s contest, MHS lost to East St. John’s 70-66 in overtime. With the game tied 57-57, Mandeville missed two free throws with 3.2 seconds left in regulation play. East St. John outscored Mandeville 13-9 in overtime to take the victory.

Howard posted 26 points, connecting on 16-of-21 free throws. Howard also hit on two 3-pointers. Kelsey Sparks finished with 12 points and Lindelow contributed 11. Karin Hicks added seven points and Myers chipped in with six.

Pope John Paul II falls to Bogalusa

Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars suffered a 39-33 loss to Bogalusa in a road game held Thursday.

PJP was 5-4 at Tuesday’s press time.

Michelle Pontiff nearly posted a double-double. She finished with nine points, 11 steals, five rebounds and two blocks. Christa Roscigno was the Lady Jaguars’ leading scorer with 12 points. She also grabbed four rebounds, tallied three steals and blocked two shots.
