Covington’s Phillip Bickham scored a game-high 23 points and Jordan Bedford added 13 Tuesday to lead the Lions past Northlake Christian School, 60-56, in a non-district game played at CHS.

Covington (8-4) got six points from Jarius Bickham and five points each from Darren Lee and Terrance Singleton. CHS connected on 15-of-21 free throws (71.4 percent), while NCS struggled from the charity stripe, hitting only 5-of-18 (27.7 percent).

Covington took advantage of some late Northlake Christian turnovers and hit clutch free throws down the stretch. NCS (3-3) held a 27-22 halftime lead. The Wolverines hung in with senior point guard Josh Ryan scoring 21 points including five 3-pointers followed by Taylor Bazzell with 14 points.

Bazzell connected on three treys. Alex Reed contributed seven points and Carter Fitzgerald finished with six for the Wolverines.

Salmen downs Bonnabel

Salmen’s R.J. Scott scored a team-high 24 points helping the Spartans stay undefeated with an 89-60 victory over Bonnabel on the road Tuesday.

Salmen, who hit 15 treys, is 9-0 this year. Jared Harrison scored 18 points, while Daron Populist posted 17. Isiah Tate registered 11 points, all in the first half. Derrick Thomas also had 11 points for the Spartans.

Northshore falls to Chalmette

Northshore suffered an 81-65 defeat in a road game against Chalmette Tuesday despite Jervious Epherson’s 26 points. NHS slipped to 0-5.

The Panthers were saddled with foul trouble, but played the Owls to a 36-36 tie by halftime.

Chalmette ended up leading 66-48 after the third quarter.

Archie Ambo, who finished with 13 points, picked up his fourth foul in the first half.

He played the final 10 minutes without committing his fifth.

Michael Lewis also collected three fouls in the first half.

Chandler Brown posted 10 points, while Chris Ruiz tallied seven.

Girls

SHS defeats St. Thomas Aquinas

Slidell’s Lady Tigers defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 47-46, Tuesday at SHS. Slidell is 7-4 this year, while St. Thomas is 7-2.

The Lady Tigers led 25-15 at halftime when freshman Katrina Littlepage hit a running 3-pointer.

In the fourth quarter, point guard Lillian McAbee twisted her ankle. She came back late in the game. St. Thomas pressed Slidell and was able to trim the lead to 45-44 with 1:30 left.

Slidell got the ball and St. Thomas had to foul twice to force SHS to shoot a 1-and-1.

With 30 seconds left, Kameron Lacoste hit both ends of a 1-and-1 and SHS led 47-44.

St. Thomas tried a 3-pointer with five seconds left that was no good.

The ball went out of bounds to the Lady Falcons with 2.6 seconds left.

Slidell gave St. Thomas a layup, but the Lady Falcons fell short by a point.

FHS downs

St. Amant

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Amant 52-43 Monday in non-district action at St. Amant.

Jennifer Beehler led three players in double figures with 14 points. Nicole Gurievsky and Anna Ribbeck finished with 10 points each.

Rebekah Crandle, Danielle Revon and Britney Matherne added five points each for the Lady Bulldogs.

FHS (7-3) led 23-18 at the half.

Northshore beats Berwick

Northshore’s DeJean Flemings recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in a 62-14 win over Berwick in action held Monday.

NHS was 7-8 this season as they began play in the Grace King Tournanent, which began Wednesday.

Amber Smith added 15 points for NHS.
