The Tri-Parish Officials Association is currently holding their annual clinics for recreational and prep basketball.
No experience is required, but experienced officials are welcome. Graduates will begin working immediately. The average pay is from $18-$27.50 per hour.

Montz holding soccer camps
The Jared Montz Pro Soccer Camps will be held tomorrow and Sunday at Coquille Sports Complex and Dec. 27-31 at Pelican Park.
Montz is a Mandeville High graduate and professional soccer player.
Both clinics are for children ages 5-13. The one at Coquille will run from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $75 if you sign up by today and $85 by tomorrow.
The cost includes an autographed picture, Montz soccer ball, question and answer session, chances to win Montz gear, prize giveaway, camper action pictures from e-mail and a chance to be on Montz TV.
Campers must provide water, ball, cleats, shin guards and sunscreen.
For the clinic at Pelican Park, the cost is $195 if you sign up by Dec. 26 and then $205 by Dec. 27. The cost covers the same things in both camps, but participants receive a T-shirt in the second camp.
The camp will run from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 27-28 and 9 a.m. until noon Dec. 29-31.

SHS boys’ soccer alumni game set
Slidell High will be hosting an Alumni soccer game on Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. to help raise money for the current team and to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.
SHS is looking for all former players from the 1980s to 2008, who would like to participate.
A $25 donation is asked from all players.

MJH baseball
tryouts set
Mandeville Junior High will soon hold baseball tryouts for the upcoming season. Madisonville Junior High players are also invited to attend as well as any boy that will be attending Mandeville High School in the fall.
This will be an eighth grade team but some seventh graders with experience will also be considered.
This is an independent team and is not officially affiliated with Mandeville Junior High or the St. Tammany school system. Travel experience is preferred but is not a must.

College Softball Camp planned
The 2009 College Softball Camp will be held Jan. 3-4 at the Coquille Sports Complex.
This is an opportunity for high school players to participate in workouts with college coaches from LSU, UL-L, USM, SLU, LA Tech, Nicholls, Southern, Centenary, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Louisiana College, McNeese, LSU-A, LSU-E and others.

AAU to hold
tryouts
The Northshore Basketball Training Center will be conducting tryouts for the 2009 Amateur Athletic Union season, which will run from February through June for boys and girls ages 8-14.
The tryout dates will be Jan. 3 and 10.
The times for the 8-9-year olds are 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., while 10-11s are from 11 a.m. until noon. The 12-14s will tryout from noon-1. If you cannot make your respective time, come from 1-2 p.m.
For last years’ players who wish to rejoin, you only need register online.
Each team will have 12 players. An information meeting will be scheduled in late January for all team member parents.
For newcomers, this is not recreation basketball. This is what you would expect a good junior high or high school program to be.

Running Club meets Saturdays
The Pelican Running Club is a Pelican Athletic Club community program and is in its third marathon-training season.
The group meets each Saturday morning at 7 at the Mandeville Trailhead for a group training run on the Tammany Trace. The suggested training schedules (available online at mardigrasmarathon.com) are designed for those training to complete their first marathon or half-marathon event.
The group is very participatory in nature and has had great fun the past two years preparing for the New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon events. The training group is open to the community.

Youth tennis
program set
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18.
It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.
Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.
Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
