Mandeville residents wanting to recall Mayor Eddie Price are running out of time.

Petition chairman Mike O’Connor said the official deadline to get all the signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office isn’t until the end of February, but he plans on collecting all of the signature sheets circulating around Mandeville with volunteers and getting an official count at the end of January.

O’Connor said he doesn’t know how many signatures they’ve collected so far, but he suspects they have a good ways to go before collecting the required 2,400 signatures.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, O’Connor will have to submit the signatures to the parish’s registrar’s office, where they will be counted and validated one by one.

If enough signatures are on the petition, the registrar sends it off to the secretary of state and governor’s office.

The governor will then call a recall election, where Mandeville voters will make the decision whether or not to oust Price. If voted out, another special election will be held to fill the vacant seat, which Price could run for again.

The last recall election to occur in the state took place in Folsom only several years ago when the residents voted to recall their Board of Aldermen.

One of the aldermen was able to win his seat back.

O’Connor said anyone interesting in signing the petition should call him at 259-0051 or visit him at 634 Carroll St.
