A small shed caught fire in Mandeville Tuesday, briefly causing havoc for one homeowner in the Lewisburg subdivision.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at 201 Magnolia St.

When crews from St. Tammany Fire District 4 arrived less than five minutes later, they found a 120-square-foot wooden shed completely engulfed in flames.

“There was a lot of radiant heat from the shed, and it was about to spread to the house,” said Fire District 4 Chief Rick Tassin. “Our guys did a real good job of getting it contained quickly.”

Though detached from the 2,600-square-foot residence, the shed was still close enough that flames were licking the eaves of the home.

Tassin said it only took about 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze, and the homeowner was present at the time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
