Three-legged pony to visit Tchefuncte Animal Hospital

Published on Friday, December 19, 2008 10:29 AM CST

Tchefuncte Animal Hospital will host a visit by Molly, a pony who has survived two storms and a vicious dog attack to become an inspirational figure. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the grounds surrounding the clinic on Louisiana Highway 21, south of Dummyline Road.

“Molly is a kind of miracle,” said Kaye Harris, who originally rescued Molly along with her husband Glenn. “Most animals would not have survived the trauma that she has endured, but Molly has special qualities — she is strong, patient and inspires love and admiration in those who meet her. She does something to people,” Harris said. “She gives them hope.”

Tchefuncte Animal Hospital veterinarian Dr. David Moores was inspired, too. A graduate of LSU School of Veterinarian Medicine, Moores read about Molly’s story in a book by Pam Kaster, titled “Molly the Pony: A True Story,” and decided to host a visit from Molly and a book-signing event for the Northshore community.

“We have recently opened this clinic and wanted to introduce ourselves to the community through this event,” Moores said. “One of our goals is to help educate pet owners and animal lovers throughout the area; Molly’s story is a great way for adults and children to interact with a very unique animal survivor.”

In addition to Molly’s visit, Tchefuncte Animal Hospital will have free pony rides (on Molly’s pony friends), light refreshments, and tours of the new facility. Autographed copies of the book about Molly will be available for purchase along with Molly-inspired souvenirs.
