NCS trims Bethany

Northlake Christian School’s Josh Ryan tallied 24 points last Friday, including two 3-pointers and 8-of-10 from the free throw line, to spark the Wolverines to a 50-47 victory over the Bethany on the road. Ryan connected on 8-of-9 charity tosses in the fourth quarter to help propel the Wolverines to victory.

NCS (4-3) also got seven points from Alex Reed, and Taylor Bazzell contributed five points. Jacob Draffen scored four points off the bench for the Wolverines. Northlake Christian outscored Bethany 13-10 in the second quarter to take a 22-19 halftime advantage.

Pope John Paul tops Doyle

Pope John Paul II’ knocked off Doyle, 53-39, in the district opener for both teams in a game played at Doyle. PJP is 12-2 this season.

Only four players scored the Jags. Scott Joffe and Matt Binder each tallied 18, while Ryan Palmisano posted 12 and Joel Price scored five points.

First Baptist

tops Lutheran

First Baptist Christian School’s Eagles downed Lutheran, 42-28, in a road game Monday. First Baptist is 8-9 this season.

Tredon Peterson led the Eagles with 19 points, while Caleb Earhart scored 11 and Anthony Benasco tallied eight.

Salmen downs Slidell High

Salmen’s R.J. Scott put up 27 points in a 67-52 victory over the Slidell Tigers last Friday at SHS.

Slidell jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first, but Salmen finished the quarter with a 10-0 run and led 13-12 after the first. The Spartans held a 36-27 advantage at halftime.

Daron Populist posted 16 points, while Isiah Tate had 14.

Slidell’s Josh Richardson topped the Tigers with 17 points, 12 coming in the first quarter. Tevin Parker finished with nine, and D.J. Dauphin registered seven.

First Baptist falls to Jehovah-Jireh

First Baptist Christian School’s Eagles lost to Jehovah-Jireh, 54-31, in a road contest last Friday. Caleb Earhart scored 16 points, and Donovan Fredricks scored eight.

Girls

Mandeville beats Northshore High

Mandeville’s Hannah Tracey scored 20 points, helping the Lady Skippers defeat Northshore, 55-39, in the district opener Tuesday night at MHS.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Northshore but was moved due to work on NHS’ bleachers. When the two teams meet again on Jan. 23, the contest will be played at Northshore. Mandeville is 5-6 overall, while the Panthers are 8-10.

Amy Howard scored 16 points for the Lady Skippers, while Adrienne Myers scored eight.

Northshore’s Samantha Purdom topped the Lady Panthers with 11 points.

Mandeville held a 36-33 advantage after the third period. NHS committed 33 turnovers.

SSA defeats

Covington

St. Scholastica Academy opened district play Tuesday at home with a 56-47 victory over Covington. Kayleigh Chiasson topped the Doves with a game-high 21 points. Maury Williams finished with nine points.

CHS (3-6) got nine points from Emily Smith, followed by Khadijah James with eight.

Hannah Lavigne added seven points, followed by Myria Cyprian and Gloria Darby with six points each.

Ponchatoula downs FHS

Ponchatoula’s Lady Green Wave downed Fontainebleau, 69-31, Tuesday in the district opener for both clubs. The game was played at FHS. Ponchatoula’s Megan Berner scorched the nets for a game-high 31 points, connecting on 15-of-21 field goal attempts.

FHS (8-6) was led by Jennifer Beehler with 11 points. She also had three rebounds and two steals. Danielle Revon added five points with five rebounds and a steal. Nicole Gurievsky finished with four points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Sarah Ulm added four points, five blocks and three rebounds.

Doyle knocks off Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II suffered a 57-19-road loss to Doyle in the district opener Tuesday.

The Lady Jaguars, who trailed 21-9 at halftime, are 7-7 this season.

Christa Roscigno led PJP with seven points. Shelly Pontiff tallied six points, five rebounds, four steals and a block.

NCS tops Kentwood

Northlake Christian School’s Lady Wolverines opened district play Tuesday at home with a 43-31 victory over Kentwood. Caitlyn Anderson topped the Lady Wolverines with 19 points. She also contributed four assists and three rebounds.

Molly Gaddy chipped in with nine points, two rebounds and two assists, while Jenni O’Rear added seven points and two rebounds. NCS took a 13-6 first-quarter lead and was up 17-12 at the half. NCS tallied 13 points in the third and fourth quarters to take the 12-point victory.

NCS (10-5) travels to Varnado today for a district contest.

Hannan struggles with Southern Lab

Archbishop Hannan struggled Tuesday, losing Southern Lab, 75-7, to open District 7-1A play. Junior guard Kimmy Kirsch scored five of the Lady Hawks’ points, with Kayla Rebouche adding the other two.

Southern Lab held a 28-2 first quarter advantage before taking a 42-3 halftime lead. Hannan hosts its first regular season basketball game in its new gymnasium this afternoon at 5 o’clock.

First Baptist defeats Lutheran

First Baptist Christian School’s Hannah Jones scored 18 points in a 43-13 victory over Lutheran Monday in a road game. The Lady Eagles are 4-2 this year.

Sara Jones recorded 12 points, while Sarah Petty tallied nine.

FHS and NHS compete tourney

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs finished 1-2, and Northshore’s Lady Panthers went 1-1 in the Grace King Irish Eyes Tournament.

FHS lost to Bonnabel 60-38 in its opener on Dec. 9. FHS’ Jennifer Beehler topped the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Nicole Gurievsky finished with seven points and nine rebounds.

FHS struggled with ball control, committing 35 turnovers.

Last Wednesday, FHS downed St. Charles Catholic, 51-18, with Gurievsky posting a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, including eight boards on the offensive glass. Danielle Revon finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Beehler contributed 12 points and three rebounds.

In Thursday’s game, Fontainebleau fell to Karr, 44-41. Beehler topped the Lady Dawgs with 16 points and six rebounds. Anna Ribbeck finished with seven points and six rebounds. Gurievsky contributed six points with 12 rebounds.

Revon added four points with eight rebounds, while Chelcy Morse added four points and four rebounds.

NHS began the competition by beating Central Lafourche, 50-22, on Dec. 10 behind Samantha Purdom’s 11 points. Dejean Flemings nearly got a double-double as she scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

On Dec. 12, the Lady Panthers lost to Helen Cox, 50-43.

Tory Hearn topped NHS with 11 points and seven rebounds.
