Boys prep sports roundup Soccer MHS blanks Covington Mandeville’s Skippers blanked the Covington Lions 2-0 Friday night in district play at Jack Salter Stadium. Thirty minutes into the contest, Beau DeGruy netted a goal assisted by Aaron Noelke. The goal gave the Skippers a 1-0 first half lead. Mandeville (8-4, 3-2) tacked on its second goal 20 minutes into the second half with Brennan Breaux making a dribble move and finishing putting the ball in the top right corner. MHS’ goalkeeper Hall Lyons posted the shutout and was named the Skippers’ top defender. He turned away a Covington penalty kick. Mandeville had 10 shots on goal, while Covington (6-5-2, 2-4) took eight shots. FHS blanks Ponchatoula Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs blanked the Ponchatoula Green Wave 5-0 in district play on Tuesday in Ponchatoula. FHS had five different players tally goals. Lucas Rader tallied in the sixth minute assisted by Dolapo Ogunniyi. Petyon Adkins gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead on an assist by Blake Forest. FHS’ Sal Bavido netted a goal five minutes into the second half assisted by Rader. Dakoriye Charles increased the margin to 4-0 on an unassisted goal in the 70th minute. Reed Mulford closed out the scoring in the 75th minute on an assist by Brendan Roland. Kyle Gurievsky was named the Bulldogs’ top defender. Matt Harris was the winning goalkeeper and was credited with two saves. FHS put 17 shots on goal. FHS coach Budd Ditchendorf praised the play of his entire defense, which held Ponchatoula without a shot on goal in the first half and just two attempts in the second half. “The defense choked off the Ponchatoula attack all night long,” Ditchendorf said. Basketball Hannan falls to Holden Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks were downed by the Holden Rockets 78-45 Thursday in non-district action on the road. Holden jumped out to a 17-0 lead, which the Hawks could not recover from. The Rockets pressure defense forced a number of Hannan turnovers. Josh Bono and Chad Boihem led the Hawks with nine points each. |
