Covington takes Grace King

Covington’s Jordan Bedford registered 24 points, five steals and four rebounds to propel the Fighting Lions past the Grace King Fighting Irish 75-53 Monday night in Metairie. CHS (13-6) raced out to a 38-25 halftime margin. Phillip Bickham tallied 22 points with five steals, four rebounds and four assists. He also blocked a shot. Joel Bailey totaled eight points for the Lions. CHS’ Tank Mizell chipped in with six points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Mandeville knocks off Gulfport

Mandeville’s Skippers downed Gulfport, 57-47, during Saturday’s action held at St. Stanislaus. The Skippers are 9-6 this season. Timmy Tryforos led MHS with 18 points, while Jordane Ganapamo posted 13 and Brandon Weeden registered nine.

Pearl River hangs on to beat FHS

Fontainebleau missed a last second shot in a 63-62 loss to the Pearl River Rebels in a game held Saturday at the New Orleans Arena.

Fontainebleau slipped to 5-6 on the season.

Pearl River was playing without leading-scorer Jacob Maxwell, who was competing in the high-school all-star game at the Louisiana Superdome.

Chris Simon and Lonnie Hayes each scored 18 points to lead PRHS, while Jeremy Lang finished with 10.

Fontainebleau’s Taylor Hanby tallied 16. Quin Cooper scored 19 points and Jason Green posted 11.

CHS, Salmen, SPS compete in classic

Covington’s Lions finished with a 2-1 record, while Salmen and St. Paul’s each went 1-2 in the Country Day Classic held in Metairie held Thursday-Saturday.

CHS dropped its opener falling to the Karr Cougars 70-57 on Friday.

Phillip Bickham topped CHS with 17 points. He also had seven steals, two rebounds and two assists. Jordan Bedford added 15 points followed by Darren Lee with nine points. Lee also contributed five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Joel Bailey chipped in with four points, four steals, four rebounds and two assists. In Friday’s second game, CHS trimmed New Iberia’s Catholic High, 68-64, behind Bedford’s 22 points. Bailey turned in a strong game finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Phillip Bickham chipped in with 17 points in the Lions’ balanced attack. On Saturday, Covington edged cross-town rival St. Paul’s 59-52 with Phillip Bickham dropping in a game-high 23 points. He added six rebounds and came up with four steals. Bedford hit for 16 points followed by Marquis Porter with seven points. Lee was solid with six points, seven rebounds, a block and an assist.

SPS’ Derek Arnold scored 12 points with six rebounds. Will Gensler finished with nine points and six boards followed by Jonathan Schoen with eight points.

St. Paul’s (8-6) opened by falling to Salmen, 60-33 on Thursday.

R.J. Scott and Daron Populist topped the Spartans with 13 points each followed by Isiah Tate with 10 and T.J. Price posted nine. Luke Baumgartner led the way for St. Paul’s with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Arnold contributed six points with six rebounds for the Wolves.

St. Paul’s rebounded with a 53-42 victory Saturday over the Holy Cross Tigers with Josh White dropping in 11 points. White drained three treys. Morgan Wells turned in a strong all around game with nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Schoen totaled nine points with three steals for the Wolves. Jeff Coote netted eight points in the St. Paul’s balanced scoring effort. SPS head coach Mike Toups said his club took excellent care of the basketball only committing seven turnovers in the 11-point victory.

In Saturday’s final game, SPS came up short, losing to Covington.

After beating SPS, Salmen (11-2) lost its final two games.

On Friday, the Spartans fell to Jesuit, 56-41.

Jared Harrison scored 12 points, while Tate tallied 11 and Populist finished with nine.

Saturday’s game with Edna Karr was a 64-52 loss, despite Price’s double-double. He registered 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Harrison was the Spartans’ leading scorer with 14, while Tate posted 10 and Populist recorded nine.

NCS competes in Ecole Classique

Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines competed in the Ecole Classique Tournament held Thursday-Saturday and went 1-2. NCS (5-5) opened the tournament defeating Fisher 65-43.

Alex Reed topped the Wolverines with 14 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds with two blocks. Point guard Josh Ryan finished with 13 points and dished off four assists. Timmy Broussard added nine points followed by Will Werner with five points, seven assists and seven steals. NCS was in control throughout after building a 34-16-halftime lead.

NCS fell to Episcopal 53-47 on Friday. Episcopal connected on 11-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold onto the lead. Episcopal built a 22-17-halftime lead. NCS’ Taylor Bazzell led the Wolverines with 17 points including five 3-pointers. Reed followed with 11 points. Werner and Josh Seale added five points each for the Wolverines.

NCS finished the tournament with a 42-40 loss to E.D. White. Ryan scored 24 points coming on eight 3-pointers.

Northlake Christian trailed 23-20 at halftime as E.D. White hit a trey at the buzzer.

The Wolverines were outscored 17-6 in the third quarter. NCS came back in the fourth quarter and outscored E.D. White, 14-2, but came up short.

Reed tallied seven points, while Werner added six.

West Jefferson beats FHS

Fontainebleau suffered a 63-60 loss to West Jefferson in a road game Friday.

The Bulldogs put four players in double-figures, including, Matt Orlando along with Jason Green with 15, Taylor Hanby, 13 and Quin Cooper, 12.

Mandeville HIgh

tops Pearl River

Mandeville’s Skippers collected a 58-40 victory over the Pearl River Rebels Friday at MHS. Mandeville led 46-40 with three minutes left before going on to the win.

Jordane Ganapamo talied a game-high 18 points, while Chad Alfaro posted 13 and Josh Priola finished with eight. Pearl River’s Eric Mavor posted 10 points, while Jeremy Lang registered nine. Jacob Maxwell scored eight points before fouling out.

Hannan tops

First Baptist

Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks downed the First Baptist Christian School Eagles Friday 51-43 at home with double-doubles by Ben Condon and Pat Munger. Condon delivered 12 points with 17 rebounds and four blocks.

Munger tallied 10 points and registered 15 rebounds. Eddie Laine added 12 points for the Hawks.

Hannan opened up the second half with a 10-4 run and led by as many as 13 as they won for the first time at their new gym.
