Pearl River defeats PJP II

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels knocked off the Pope John Paul II Lady Jaguars in non-district action held Monday at PJP. Pearl River is 8-6, while the Lady Jags are 8-8.

Caitlyn Harper and Gabby Jeansonne led the Lady Rebels with 12 points, while Missy Pichon had 11.

Danielle Olivier scored a game-high 17 points for PJP. She also grabbed eight rebounds and finished with four steals. Ashley Allen tallied nine points and four steals. Shelly Pontiff posted seven points, seven rebounds, seven steals, four assists and two blocks.

Mandeville beats Covington

Mandeville’s Lady Skippers defeated the Covington Lady Lions, 48-40, in a district game held Friday at MHS. Mandeville (6-6) is 2-0 in district play, while CHS (3-7) fell to 0-2.

Hannah Tracey led the Lady Skippers with 14 points, while Kelsey Sparks scored 10 and Amy Howard registered eight.

Covington’s Myria Cyprian topped the Lady Lions with 14 points.

PJP II edges

St. Helena Central

Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars beat St. Helena Central 35-32 in a district game held Friday at PJP. Pope John Paul evened its district record to 1-1.

With 14 seconds left, the Lady Jaguars led 33-32 when Shelly Pontiff was fouled. She hit both free throws, extending the lead to 35-32. PJP pressured St. Helena and they were not able to get a clear shot to potentially tie the game.

Danielle Olivier led PJP with 12 points and six rebounds. Ashley Allen scored nine points, while posting a two steals.

Hannan falls to Christian Life

Archbishop Hannan fell to Christian Life 52-39 Friday in District 7-1A play. It was the Lady Hawks first game in their new gymnasium. Hannan junior guard Kimmy Kirsch led the Lady Hawks with 25 points, while sophomore Katelyn Donnely had eight. Hannan led 31-26 at the half, but was outscored 16-2 in the third quarter and 10-6 in the final period, suffering the 13-point loss.

PRHS drops close one to Bogalusa

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels suffered a 61-59 loss to Bogalusa in a non-district road game held Friday.

Caitlyn Harper topped PRHS with 20 points, while Missy Pichon finished with 16 and Katie Guido had nine.

NCS loses

to Varnado

The Varnado Lady Wildcats trimmed the Northlake Christian School Lady Wolverines 47-40 in District 7-1A play Friday at Varnado. Hope Fitzgerald led NCS with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. Caitlyn Anderson finished with 14 points, while Jenni O’Rear grabbed five rebounds for the Lady Wolverines.

NCS (10-6, 1-1) held a 20-17 halftime lead. Varnado outscored NCS 13-11 in the third quarter to cut the lead to one 31-30.

Varnado hit 7-of-9 free throws in the final period to clinch the victory, while NCS took nine free throws in the game.
