Fundraiser to benefit future dog park By Chad RuizSt. Tammany News Playing Frisbee with Fido in the park is not a reality in St. Tammany Parish thanks to the lack of a dog parks in the area. However, a group of citizens, spearheaded by Sarah Pokorny, are trying to make that reality come true with a fundraising event in January. Earlier this year Pelican Park outside of Mandeville agreed to donate three acres of land to St. Tammany’s first dog park, as long as the group raises $150,000 to fund the construction of the park. So far, only one fundraising event has been held, so Pokorny and others have a long way to go. To help out with the collection, a special event to benefit the Pelican Bark Park will be held Jan. 24 at Maxein’s in Mandeville. The event will last from 7 to 10 p.m. and will include food, drinks, live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $45 per person, and all proceeds will benefit the construction of the bark park. |
