Jesuit wins SPS tourney

In rainy conditions, Jesuit’s Blue Jays won the 26th St. Paul’s Holiday Invitational, 4-0, over the defending Division I state champion Caddo Magnet Mustangs, handing them their first loss, on Sunday at Hunter Stadium. The Blue Jays are 16-0-1, while Caddo is 17-1.

Jesuit sophomore Stephen Cabos opened the scoring on a penalty kick. Then a header by Trey Kramer off a free kick from Cabos made it 2-0. Colin Sens made it 3-0 in the 24th minute and the Blue Jays took that lead to halftime.

In the second half, Jesuit’s Alexi Petrou finalized the scoring with a netter.

In the Saturday’s semifinals, Jesuit defeated Captain Shreve, 4-2, in penalty kicks.

The teams were tied at 1-1 after two 40-minute halves and a pair of 10-minute overtime periods. Jesuit won bracket D and Captain Shreve captured bracket C.

Stephen Andrieu was the Blue Jays’ goalkeeper.

In the other semifinal match, Caddo Magnet outlasted Newman, 1-0, in overtime.

Caddo’s Jordan Abdehou tallied the goal three minutes into the extra period.

The Mustangs took bracket A, while Newman was victorious in bracket B.
