Salmen goes 1-2, PRHS 1-3 at Rumble tourney

Salmen’s Lady Spartans went 1-2 and Pearl River finished 1-3 during the Rumble on the River basketball tournament held Saturday to Monday at the Alario Center on the Westbank.

Salmen (6-7) began the competition with a 45-37 win over McDonough 35 Saturday.

Rica Smith scored 22 points, while Cydne Holden registered 12.

Later that day, the Lady Spartans suffered a 54-29 loss against St. Thomas More on Saturday.

Smith once again led Salmen with 11 points, while Holden tallied seven.

In the second-place game for the white division, Salmen lost to Caldwell, 51-39, Monday. Caldwell, which trailed 24-23 at halftime, is located south of Monroe.

Chelsie James posted 12 points, while Kristan Campbell finished with 10.

Pearl River’s Lady Rebels (9-9) opened the tournament by falling to Long Beach, 37-26, Saturday.

Caitlyn Harper scored 14 points, while Missy Pichon tallied six.

PRHS then suffered a 58-23 setback to Thibodaux Sunday.

Harper led the Lady Rebels with nine points, while Katie Guido and Kyra Washington each had four. The Lady Rebels were playing without point guard Pichon, who was sick.

Pearl River came back later Sunday to knock off Higgins, 46-40.

Harper and Gabby Jeansonne each posted 13 points to lead the Lady Rebels.

On Monday, PRHS lost to Warren Easton, 49-38. Pearl River led, 24-20 at halftime.

Pichon recorded 15 points and Harper continued her consistent play with 13 points.
