FHS, MHS struggle in tourney
Fontainebleau went 1-2 in the 26th St. Paul’s Holiday Invitational held at the Covington Youth Soccer Fields on Friday and then St. Paul’s on Saturday and Sunday.

St. Paul's holiday tourney a success
St. Paul’s held it’s 26th annual Holiday Invitational Soccer Tournament Dec. 26-28 featuring some of the top ranked teams in the state. Over the years, the tournament has become one of the state’s premier events involving kind of a who’s who in boys’ soccer.
More of this storyIn rainy conditions, Jesuit’s Blue Jays won the 26th St. Paul’s Holiday Invitational, 4-0, over the defending Division I state champion Caddo Magnet Mustangs, handing them their first loss, on Sunday at Hunter Stadium. The Blue Jays are 16-0-1, while Caddo is 17-1.

Mandeville's Lady Skippers tame the Loranger Wolves
Mandeville’s Lady Skippers put together a strong defensive fourth quarter Friday night to scratch out a 53-37 non-district victory over the Loranger Lady Wolves at home. MHS senior Amy Howard posted a game-high 19 points, including 7-of-10 from the free throw line in the second half. Freshman Hannah Tracey turned in a strong performance for the Lady Skippers finishing with 15 points. Tracey netted eight of her points in the fourth quarter. Kelsey Sparks chipped in with eight points and did a nice job rebounding for the Lady Skippers, while Mel Gaines added six points in the balanced attack.

Pope John Paul II senior Andrew Morse is a two-sport athlete, playing soccer and football. Morse also handles himself in the classroom. He’s taking three honors classes, English, calculus and physics and has a grade point average above 3.5.

Mandeville's Holiday Invitational a success
Mandeville’s Lady Skippers defeated the C.E. Byrd Lady Yellow Jackets 2-0 Monday afternoon in the MHS Holiday Invitational. The Lady Skippers struck first when sophomore Kaitlin Davis converted a penalty kick opportunity midway through the half. MHS extended the lead when sophomore Emily Descant fired a long-range shot into the net in the 68th minute. Bailey Kleis was named MHS’ top defender.
