The Tri-Parish Officials Association is currently holding their annual clinics for recreational and prep basketball.
No experience is required, but experienced officials are welcome. Graduates will begin working immediately. The average pay is from $18-$27.50 per hour.

USTA leagues
now forming
United Tennis Association Flex Leagues are now forming.
This is a new format that does not require you to join a team and is ideal for players with busy schedules. Participants may register for singles and/or doubles and play according to their NTRP ratings.
You can self-rate if you do not have a rating. You and your opponents arrange your matches when and where it is convenient.
All contests must be completed within a specified time period, which is commonly about 10 weeks.
The registration fee is $25 if you are already a USTA member or $35 if you are not.

MJH holding baseball tryouts
Mandeville Junior High will soon hold baseball tryouts for the upcoming season.
Madisonville Junior High players are also invited to attend as well as any boy that will be attending Mandeville High School in the fall.
This will be an eighth-grade team but some seventh graders with experience will also be considered.
This is an independent team and is not officially affiliated with Mandeville Junior High or the St. Tammany school system. Travel experience is preferred but is not a must. If interested contact Gasper Gioe at 966-0248 or e-mail info to gjgioe@bellsouth.net.
College Softball Camp tomorrow
The 2009 College Softball Camp will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the Coquille Sports Complex.
This is an opportunity for high school players to participate in workouts with college coaches from LSU, UL-L, USM, SLU, LA Tech, Nicholls, Southern, Centenary, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Louisiana College, McNeese, LSU-A, LSU-E and others. Last year, the camp sold out, so don’t delay.

AAU tryouts
The Northshore Basketball Training Center will be conducting tryouts for the 2009 Amateur Athletic Union season, which will run from February-June for boys and girls ages 8-14.
Tryouts are tomorrow and Jan. 10.
The times for the 8-9-year olds are 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., while 10-11s are from 11 a.m. until noon. The 12-14s will tryout from noon-1. If you cannot make your respective time, come from 1-2 p.m.
For last years’ players who wish to rejoin, you only need register online.
Each team will have 12 players. An information meeting will be scheduled in late January for all team member parents.
For newcomers, this is not recreation basketball. This is what you would expect a good junior high or high school program to be.

Pelican Park Registration
Pelican Park will be holding signups for boys’ basketball, girls’ volleyball and a volleyball clinic. The dates run from Monday through Jan. 20.
Basketball is for ages, 13-17. Your age is as of Aug. 31, 2008. There will be a 10-game season followed by a single elimination tournament.
Girls’ volleyball is for those 9-17 with the age being as of Oct. 1, 2008. The season is 10 games with a single elimination tournament to follow.
New players may register in the Castine Center office Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. through 5 p.m.
Returning players can sign up at www.pelicanpark.com.
The volleyball clinic is open to 8-year olds. It will be a 5-week session held on Saturday mornings.

Lacombe basketball sign ups
Lacombe recreation is accepting applications for boys and girls’ basketball.
The boys’ ages are 11-18, while the girls are 11-15 and the season begins in mid-February.
You may sign up at the Recreation Office located at 61096 South St. Mary Street in Lacombe from Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The fee is $50 per person and the last day is Feb. 6, 2009.

Mandeville Soccer Club holding referee courses
The Mandeville Soccer Club will host two levels of referee courses on Jan. 18, 2009 and Jan. 25.
The course on Jan. 18 is for beginners, who are least 12-years old. It will take place from noon-8 p.m. at the Castine Center in Pelican Park.
The one on Jan. 25 is a bridge course and will be held from noon-8 p.m. at the MSC office. The recreational course is a prerequisite and you must be at least 14.

Pelican Running Club meets on Saturdays
The Pelican Running Club is a Pelican Athletic Club community program and is in its third marathon-training season. The group meets each Saturday morning at 7 at the Mandeville Trailhead for a group training run on the Tammany Trace. The suggested training schedules (available online at mardigrasmarathon.com) are designed for folks training to complete their first marathon or half-marathon event. The group is very participatory in nature and we’ve had great fun the past two years preparing for the New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon events. The training group is open to the community. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.
Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.
Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
