Pearl River’s Katie Guido posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and junior Missy Pichon scored a game-high 17 points, while adding three steals in a 52-32 victory over Bogalusa Friday night at PRHS.

Pichon talked about her performance.

“At first it wasn’t going well, but I had to just calm myself down to get it up there,” Pichon said. “Then I just decided to take it to the goal.”

The Lady Rebels are 10-9 this year, while the Lady Jacks fell to 2-3.

Pearl River was in control for most of the game.

The Lady Rebels took a 4-0 lead with 6:32 left in the first quarter. Bogalusa called timeout with 5:46 left and afterward, PRHS used a full-court press.

“Something about the press gets us more aggressive and then we play harder ball,” Pearl River coach Lee Williams said. “If we start out in a zone type of defense, we tend to relax a little bit too much. So I like to get out there and have a go-get’em attitude right off the bat.”

Bogalusa’s Jasmine Pack, who led her team with 13 points, split free throws to make it 4-1 with 5:15 left in the first quarter. PRHS responded by scoring the next four points as Guido hit from the baseline. Then Pichon made a pass to Caitlyn Harper and she tallied two of her 10 points, making it 8-1.

Later in the period, Pearl River went up 14-5 as Harper hit a jumper. Following the basket, the Lady Rebels defense came to the forefront. Guido made a steal in the backcourt, passed to Heather Polk and she was fouled. Polk missed the first free throw and the second was waived off due to a lane violation. The Lady Rebels got another theft in the backcourt and Guido hit a pull-up jumper and it was 16-5. The steals continued to come as Pichon got one and was fouled. After she split from the charity stripe, PRHS had a 17-5 advantage with 1:41 remaining in the first.

Pack trimmed the lead to 17-7 with a layup and 52 seconds left to close out the opening-period’s scoring.

In the second quarter, the Lady Jacks cut the lead to 17-12 as Pack hit a free throw and Mylezza Mingo hit both of hers after an offensive rebound. Chelsie Adams added a layup to cap the run with 4:09 remaining.

But the Lady Rebels came back and ended the half strong with an 8-2 run. Pichon hit for two and was fouled, but missed the free throw. Guido scored a layup, Gabby Jeansonne hit a jumper and Pichon hit a pull-up jumper as the Lady Rebels took a 25-14 lead to the break.

In the third quarter, PRHS extended the advantage to 33-20, but the Lady Jacks went on a 7-2 run and trimmed it to 35-27 as the game moved to the final period. Bogalusa continued the run to start the fourth, as Adams knocked down a layup, cutting the Lady Rebel advantage to 35-29.

But Pearl River dominated after that and went on a 12-3 spurt to go up, 47-30 with 1:06 remaining.

Pack hit a pair of free throws with 58.7 seconds left to close out Bogalusa’s scoring.
