Congressman Steve Scalise, R-Metairie, was named by Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) as an Assistant Republican Whip, responsible for tracking legislation and providing the rest of the republican conference with vote recommendations.

“As we begin this new Congress, I am honored to join congressman Cantor and the Republican leadership team as an assistant Republican whip,” Scalise said. “I will be working to support and promote conservative policies that cut taxes for middle class families to turn our economy around, and to restore fiscal discipline by controlling spending in Washington.”

“This week begins our march toward a stronger future for America based on revitalized, common sense ideals,” Republican whip Cantor said.

Scalise was also appointed to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that has oversight over the U.S. Corps of Engineers, FEMA, water management, highway and transit, port security, U.S. Coast Guard, aviation, railroads, pipelines, hazardous materials, economic development and public buildings.

Scalise retains his membership on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.
